LiDAR Mining Survey System
The safe operation of the mine shafts requires periodical surveying. A traditional way of surveying is an optical inspection conducted by experts. Unfortunately, this method has many disadvantages. The expert can easily miss or misinterpret something. Moreover, surveying is performed from the top of the elevator cage, which is very dangerous.
Together with Skala3D, we designed a LiDAR Mining Survey System. The system consists of three LiDAR scanners (provided by Z+F) and a FOG IMU. It has a built-in power supply system and is designed to work in harsh mining environments. The system is controlled and monitored from an external laptop using WiFi so the operator can supervise its operation being safe inside the cage.
Using the MSS, the whole survey process requires less than a single hour spent in the mine shaft. It is 8 times less than in a traditional way. It’s also much safer. The result is a full 3D model of the mine shaft that can be used not only for detailed inspection but also for planning any work in the shaft.
The system can be also used in railway or subway tunnels as well as in horizontal mining excavations.
